DOVER, Kent, Benedictine priory of St Mary the Virgin and St Martin; cell of Canterbury cathedral priory
The sophisticated catalogue drawn up in 1389 by Br. John Whitfield (giving pressmarks, contents, incipits, dicta probatoria, physical descriptions, and a finding-guide index), in Bodl. MS Bodley 920, printed by W. Stoneman, Dover Priory, CBMLC 5 (1999), BM1. Select list of two titles seen by Leland, printed ibid. BM2.
The pressmark, in which the arabic numeral is written inside the capital letter, seems usually to have been entered twice, once with the ex libris and table of contents on a flyleaf, and again at the foot of the second, third or fourth leaf of text, where it is followed by the short title, the opening words of the leaf, the number of leaves in the volume, and the number of items in the volume.
